The Common in Community: La Biennale di Venezia
22 May – 21 Nov 2021
Between 22 May and 21 November, an exhibition of the Slovenian pavilion will be on display at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.
It focuses on the cooperative home – a multi-purpose public building, usually located in rural areas. Various administrative, economic, social and cultural activities are carried out in villages, small towns and suburban areas.
The exhibition highlights the dimension of the project of building cooperative homes in the given historical, spatial and organisational circumstances, both at the beginning of construction and today. Using recognisable architectural elements, it establishes an understanding of the character and functioning of the internal public space, the importance of which is emphasised by the presentation of the project itself.
The topic of cooperative homes offers opportunities to understand how we can establish internal public spaces as a social infrastructure that will strengthen free association, communication and empowerment. We are aware of why they are so important for society, especially in moments when we are deprived of the opportunity to engage and socialise.
