Inclusive European Heritage Residency 2026
Inclusive European Heritage Residency 2026
Second edition of Inclusive European Heritage Residency will take place from 13 to 19 September 2026. Around 10 selected experts will go to Malta to exchange best practices, discuss challenges and explore strategies for building strong organisations.
The residency is aimed at professionals and leaders of small or medium-sized heritage organisations who wish to strengthen their growth and sustainability. It is designed to support organisations that are working to strengthen their capacity, improve financial sustainability, improve governance, involve volunteers, increase visibility and effectively manage small heritage sites or natural areas. Both cultural and environmental organisations are welcome.
The residency is an opportunity for heritage professionals to experience first-hand how heritage policies and projects are implemented in practice. In-depth programme is designed to help participants gain practical insights into heritage conservation, foster shared solutions and foster knowledge exchange and intergenerational dialogue on heritage and heritage management across Europe. The programme’s peer-learning methodology is designed to encourage interaction, shared learning and solution-finding in a supportive professional environment. The programme will offer a rich mix of case studies, practical sessions, site visits and peer-learning. The key case study is Din l-Art Ħelwa, a non-governmental and non-profit voluntary organisation established in 1965 to safeguard Malta’s cultural and natural heritage. It operates with a very small team of staff, supported by a large group of dedicated volunteers, and manages a wide range of properties, including coastal towers, historic gardens, chapels and natural landmarks. Many of these sites are open to visitors thanks to the support of volunteers.
The program covers accommodation for six nights, all breakfasts, lunches, dinners and local transport. Participants will be accommodated in individual rooms in Majjistral Park. Participants must arrange and cover their own travel expenses and health insurance.
The deadline for applications is 15 May 2026.
