Under the theme Redesign tomorrow, today, the competition encourages breakthrough thinking and experimentation with materials, technologies and processes that contribute to more resilient and sustainable communities. The competition areas include circular design, sustainable textiles, digital solutions for sustainability, urban agriculture, innovative building approaches, awareness-raising campaigns and many other areas.

The selected projects will be judged by an international jury of experts and the winners will receive the opportunity to present their work at an international travelling exhibition, a design residency at one of five European festivals and a cash prize of €2,000 for the best residency projects.

The winners will become part of Next Gen Design 2025, which includes:

• A travelling exhibition of Next Gen Design – the exhibition will be hosted at 5 leading design festivals in Europe.
• Next Gen Design Residency Programme – selected artists or team leaders will be invited to a 4 to 6 day design residency in one of the festival cities. The costs of transport (up to 400 EUR), accommodation (up to 50 EUR per night) and meals (up to 50 EUR per day) will be covered.
• Cash prizes – the five best projects will receive the “Best Residency Award” and 2 000 EUR to further develop their ideas in the future.
