We are looking for curatorial proposals for Milan Design Week 2025
We are seeking proposals for showcasing contemporary Slovenian design and related creative production at Milan Design Week 2025.
With the aim of preparing a national showcase of contemporary Slovenian design and related creative production, the Center of Creativity (CzK) is issuing a call for proposals for the selection of a curatorial, designer and execution proposal for the Milan Design Week 2025. The event is expected to take place between 8th and 13th of April 2025. The exhibition is a part CfC’s internationalization programs and will also take place at other design events in the foreseeable future.
We seek to include a wide range of authors in the selection and presentation of the contemporary Slovenian design and creative production, as well as younger generations of curators, designers, authors, collectives, and other experts who wish to collaborate with the Center for Creativity and help develop a curatorial concept and exhibition system along with presenting the contemporary Slovenian design at various international venues.
The goal of said call is to select a project and project team, which will be working closely with the organizers to develop the concept for the curated national presentation, to identify and select a professional selection of Slovenian creators and projects, products or services and to design and execute the exhibition system for presenting contemporary Slovenian design and creative production at Milan Design Week 2025, as well as at other selected international events and venues.
Individual authors or interdisciplinary teams of curators, designers (in the fields of industrial, product, service, graphic, fashion etc.), architects, artists, researchers, and creators from other disciplines active in creative fields are invited to submit proposals.

Responsibilities of the Selected Applicant or Author Group
- Development of Exhibition Concept and Content, this includes the selection and presentation of products/projects and authors.
- Preparation of Project Brief for Exhibition Setup– visual design of the exhibition setup that can be adapted to different locations. This will be followed by drafting a plan for the implementation of the project, including a list of materials/elements for ordering and selecting a technical coordinator, and carrying out a physical setup at the location. The role also includes assisting in obtaining contractor bids and coordinating technical details/changes affecting the bids.
- Comprehensive Graphic Design for the Exhibition, short presentation publications and basic communication materials (advertisements, social media visuals, flyers or brochures, location signage, project description plaques, etc.).
- Production of Presentation Texts – writing exhibition texts, concept descriptions, and details about products/projects and authors in Slovenian language for the use in the exhibition, on the organizers’ website, and in publications, PR materials, and promotional content.
- Assistance in Exhibition Execution and Realization – overseeing the technical setup and dismantling at the location (at least one person from the selected authors should be present during the setup). Preparing a list of materials and tasks for presentation, assisting in obtaining quotes for transportation to and from the location, insurance, travel expenses, and accommodation for the workers necessary for setup and dismantling.
- Creation of Free Printed Promotional Materials (designing, content creation, text writing, and editing of promotional materials etc.) free promotional publications, necessary translations and proofreading (assisting in finding proofreaders and translators, if needed, and coordinating translations and proofreading).
Budget and Support for project execution
Under the manegment of CfC/MAO, the authors of the winning project will have a budget of up to 70.000 EUR (gross, including all taxes) available for the execution, in addition to the prize. CzK will provide the selected applicants with additional financial support (rental of space, exhibition security, opening event organization, international promotion, and other support as outlined in the public call.
In addition to production funding, the Center of Creativity/MAO will also provide other means of support in the time of setup and during the duration of the exhibition.
Prizes
The selected applicants will receive financial compensation or prizes:
1st PRIZE: 5.000 EUR (winning project, applicant or group selected for realization)
2nd PRIZE: 1.500 EUR
3RD PRIZE: 1000 EUR

Deadlines and Timeline
- Submission of questions – until August 13, 2024.
- Deadline for project submission – September 15, 2024.
- Interviews with selected applicants – first half of September
- Decision on the winning proposal – end of September

All parts of the documentation should be submitted in a single A4 PDF document and the entire documentation should not exceed 15 pages. For more information on the documentation required at the time of application, please see the open call.
Submissions with proposals (up to 5 GB) should be sent by email to info@czk.si or by WeTransfer. Please indicate CURATORIAL CALL as the subject of your message. Once the proposal has been delivered, you will receive an official acknowledgement of receipt from CzK/MAO confirming that the application has been accepted.
