On Thursday, October 1, 2026 in the morning, we hosted journalists, designers and the professional public at the MAO for a preview of the exhibition (In)Visible Threads: Conditions, Processes and Influences of Slovenian Design. The curatorial team took us through the stories of 31 design products, recipients of the Made in Slovenia 2025 Mark of Excellence 2025.
In the evening, the exhibition officially opened.
The exhibition will be on display until October 3, 2027. You are invited to see it!
AOUT THE EXHIBITION
Behind every design product there are numerous connections – between knowledge, materials, technologies, production, users, communities and the environment. The exhibition (In)Visible Threads: Conditions, Processes and Influences of Slovenian Design brings these connections to the forefront.
The exhibition presents 31 products that received the Made in Slovenia Mark of Excellence in 2025, and explores how contemporary Slovenian design is created and under what circumstances. The products are presented not only through their final appearance and function, but also through the processes, work, research, development, collaborations and conditions that enabled their creation.
The exhibition is divided into eight thematic sections: Production conditions, From need to solution, Systemic innovation process, Dialogue with the material, Heritage rekindled, Providing the conditions for the community, Sustainability as a relationship, and From product to ecosystem. These open up different ways of understanding design – from development and production to knowledge transfer, relationship to materials, community and environment.
The exhibition pays special attention to sustainability, which is understood not only as a question of materials and waste reduction, but also as a relationship to the product: its longevity, maintenance, repair and adaptability.
The exhibited works are accompanied by the views of experts from various fields, who place design practices in a broader historical, social, economic and educational context. The exhibition also includes an overview of design works that received the Made in Slovenia Mark of Excellence between 2019 and 2024.
(In)Visible Threads thus does not offer a comprehensive overview of Slovenian design, but rather one of the possible views on it – as a network of relationships, knowledge, processes and conditions that shape objects and the world around us.
