The House of Creatures exhibition, a Slovenian presentation of contemporary design, is moving to Vienna after its premiere in Milan. In an adapted version, it will be presented as part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK festival from September 25 to October 4, 2026.

The project is organized by the Centre for Creativity (CzK) at the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO), and was conceived by the international and interdisciplinary curatorial team of Ryan Barriball, Sera Eravci, Urša Gantar, Valentin Tribušon Ovsenik, Gašper Uršič and Vid Žnidaršič.

The Vienna presentation continues and builds on the exhibition that was presented in April 2026 as part of the Alcova platform in Milan. The transfer to the new environment is not designed as a direct repetition of the original installation, but as its spatial and content adaptation. The modular scenography allows for a response to a different architectural context and the establishment of new relationships between the exhibited works, the space and visitors.

House of Creatures brings together ten contemporary Slovenian design practices, whose works are presented as unique “creatures”. They evade conventional definitions of function, usability, discipline and typology. The focus is not only on the purpose of the objects, but also on how they exist, occupy space and establish relationships with other objects and bodies.

The exhibition is designed as a common home for these creatures – as an already inhabited environment in which individual works observe, respond and adapt to each other. Visitors do not enter it simply as spectators, but as temporary residents. The meaning of the works is therefore formed through direct encounter, movement through the space and coexistence with the objects.

The works of ten Slovenian designers, artists, studios and creative practices will be presented: Dan Adlešič, Lara Bohinc, Juicy Marbles, Nejc Praha, Lucija Rosc, Maruša Sagadin, Soft Baroque, Janez Suhadolc, Toasted Furniture and Sari Valenci.

Their practices range from product and furniture design, fashion and graphic design to spatial interventions, food development and experimentation with materials. The exhibition does not represent a single style, but a diverse creative environment in which design appears as a way of thinking, making, researching and connecting different disciplines.

By transferring the exhibition to Vienna, CzK continues its program of international presentation of contemporary Slovenian design. The hosting allows the project to come to life in a new cultural and architectural environment and connect with international professional audiences, institutions, designers and festival visitors.

An accompanying program will be organized at the opening with a presentation of the project and the opportunity to meet and talk with members of the curatorial team and participating designers. For visitors from Slovenia, CzK and MAO are also planning an organized bus transfer to Vienna, which will enable a group tour of the exhibition and participation in accompanying events.

Save the date: September 25, 2026. The exact opening program, exhibition location, transportation schedule and registration information will be announced later.
