M N K C L is a fashion label by designer Monika Colja, with which she explores the materiality of textiles, print, and contemporary approaches to clothing design. Monika’s clothing design revolves around materiality and print.

In her design expression, she focuses on material first and form later. She places special emphasis on the use of deadstock materials and upcycling denim, with each piece created as a unique result of the process. Despite the aesthetic of fragility and subtlety, Monika’s works are strong in their expression and thus well recognizable.

She develops her practice through collections that stem from personal and material research. Her innovative approach to designing and making clothes, where sewing becomes unnecessary and clothes are assembled through a screen printing process, earned her a finalist spot in the Scandinavian incubator Designer’s Nest (now ALPHA) and a presentation at Copenhagen Fashion Week, and her collection presentation at Ljubljana Fashion Week 2020 was awarded the LJFW WOW. Since 2021, she has also worked in the field of costume design and styling.
