Exhibition

Created in Slovenia

27 May - 2 Oct 2022

Cukrarna Palace, Ambrožev trg 3, Ljubljana

Exhibition Opening: 27 May 2022 at 18:00

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

On Friday, 27 May 2022, the Cukrarna Palace in Ljubljana will host the opening   of Created in Slovenia, an exhibition of the Museum of Architecture and Design aimed at presenting the achievements of the Centre for Creativity as well as selected programmes developed under its auspices during the first period of the Centre’s operation. The exhibition provides an insight into the work and projects of the Slovenian creative community as they change the domestic and international landscape, creating a different, inclusive, and sustainable future.

In its almost five years of operation, CzK has organised more than 500 programmes aimed at developing the sector, and recorded 248,000 participations of creators, creative businesses, self-employed freelancers, private and non-governmental organisations, and other visitors. Of these, almost 500 companies and several thousand creators were involved in specific programmes. Supported by the Ministry’s calls for proposals and by the CzK they are developing over 200 innovative products and services, maintaining over 50 collaborations between creators and companies from other economy sectors, and are funding 62 new jobs in creative enterprises. To date, over 100 Slovenian creators and entrepreneurs were represented at more than 60 exhibitions and events in 24 countries around the world

The current exhibition, Created in Slovenia, looks back at the first period of the platform’s operation and presents a selection of some of the Centre for Creativity’s most important programmes. The CzK, together with its established partner network and many other partners, connects and supports thousands of creators, artists, self-employed freelancers in culture, creative entrepreneurs, organisations, associations, and institutions across different areas of the sector. On display are the works and projects of a vibrant and creative community whose common denominator is its capacity to create change in society and to think differently, inclusively, and sustainably.

As part of BIO27 Supervernacular, whose production platform and accompanying programme is produced by the Centre for Creativity, the Curkrarna Palace will host three different international exhibitions, The Ideal Eating Experience (Kathrina Dankl in collaboration with Vienna Design Week and Vienna Business Agency) The School of the Untold (Design Campus in collaboration with German Design Graduates and the Goethe Institute) and DNA of Things (Marcin Rusak), which deal with alternatives to the existing systems and show how an experimental and interdisciplinary process enables creative research and innovation, making social and entrepreneurial innovation happen in the first place.

The Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) in 2017, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, established the Centre for Creativity (CzK) – an interdisciplinary platform aimed at the development and promotion of the cultural and creative sector in Slovenia, as well as its integration with the economy and other sectors. Together with the Ministry of Culture’s calls for proposals aimed at promoting creative industries, it supports projects that emerge at the intersection of different creative fields and entrepreneurship and contribute to economic and social progress.

BIO27 Satellite Programme

27 May - 2 Oct 2022

Cukrarna Palace, Ambrožev trg 3, Ljubljana

Exhibition opening: 27 May 2022, at 18:00

Opening hours: From tuesday to sunday, 10:00 to 18:00

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

Super Vernaculars, the theme for BIO27, explores a growing and ambitious movement that takes inspiration from vernacular design and architecture to shape a radical vision for a more responsive and resilient future. Alongside the main exhibition at The Museum of Architecture and Design and other commissions within the city centre, we are showcasing three different international design shows as part of the Satellite programme which intends to further explore and juxtapose alternative narratives and mythologies to the industrial and technocentric.

Aiming to bring together practitioners and thinkers who challenge value systems and our conventional understanding of linear production and the relationship we have with the perishable present and the unknown future, we have selected projects from Austria, Germany and Poland that range from established to emerging artists, designers and design collectives that all make connections across larger cultural and societal conversations.

Each project invites visitors to explore important topics such as the food industry and rethinking our eating habits, reconsidering material production, and a poetic and scientific investigation of the dialogue between humans and the natural world. Focusing on the values in society today and acknowledging the need for change, these exhibits are inspirational starting points that pave the way towards a sustainable revolution:

  • DNA of Things (Marcin Rusak)
  • The Ideal Eating Experience (Kathrina Dankl in collaboration with Vienna Design Week, Vienna Business Agency and Austrian Culture Forum)
  • The School of the Untold (Design Campus in collaborations with German Design Graduates and Goethe Institut)

DNA of Things

DNA of Things marks a decisive step forward in the field of scientific research applied to Marcin Rusak’s creative method, linking it back to one of Rusak’s very first investigations. In the Flower Monster project (2013–2014), the possible implications of genetic mutation applied to natural evolution were studied. Such a contrast marks a new dialogue between man and the natural world – one that can annul the limits imposed on our materiality by the factor of time. In this exhibition, the stages of Rusak’s ongoing research are presented as a Living Archive, a review of techniques and experiments crystallising deterioration, celebrating transformation, and reducing entire processes down to a smell or a material. The Unnatural Practice manifesto has ignited the studio’s collective conscience, leading to a more pronounced dialogue between science and technology, human and non-human.

The Ideal Eating Experience

Everyone needs to eat. But how? In the Urban Food & Design project, Vienna Design Week, together with the Vienna Business Agency, demonstrates which roles design can play in the production, distribution, and consumption of food. The project curated by design researcher Kathrina Dankl invites us to playfully explore local and international positions on the subject in the familiar setting of a shopping situation, to try something new – and to possibly even alter a few of our habits. This “supermarket of ideas” has now travelled from Vienna to Ljubljana in collaboration with Austrian Culture Forum and, in keeping with the theme of Super Vernaculars, employs a scoring system that offers information on the ecological impact of our eating habits and the food industry. Appropriate solutions are served up on the side!

THE SCHOOL OF THE UNTOLD

Today, designers, architects and artists can be critical agents in the transformation of global systems. As the earth's resources are being depleted, we are facing an urgent need to revisit our knowledge and education of material production. This year the Design Campus Summer School in Dresden, Germany (18 July – 26 August 2022), will be radically rooted in an expansive understanding of the realities that shape today’s world. The three projects on display are awardees at The School of the Untold, coproduced by the Goethe Institute Ljubljana in collaboration with German Design Graduates, a network of design schools and alumni hosted by the German Design Council. The graduates were selected because of their affinity for materials and the utopic potential of their final projects and will also receive scholarship for the Design Campus in Dresden.

Oder360: social event in virtual reality

8–10 Nov 2021

Španski Borci Culture Center

8 Nov: Beautiful as a picture, at 18:00 and 20:00

9 Nov: Tobelia, at 18:00 and 20:00

10 Nov: Blue Ink, at 18:00 and 20:00

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

You are invited to the first set of performances in virtual reality under the auspices of the Oder360 project, in which three creators will present their works, which were selected in a tender of the EN-KNAP institute in cooperation with the Centre for Creativity.

Between 8 and 10 November, the Španski borci Cultural Center will present the play Beautiful as a picture by Simona Semenič, Tobelia by Rosana Hribar and Blue ink by Enya Belak.

The Oder360 project, which we started developing at the EN-KNAP Institute as a reaction to the closure of theatres, means the establishment of a new type of production of performances in a 360° environment and presentations in the form of a social event, a guided tour of performances with VR glasses.

Every re-enactment of the performance will be followed by a short presentation of the technology used and its characteristics as well as talks with the project’s idea leader, Iztok Kovač, and the creators of individual performances.

The experience of watching a performance in a 360° environment offers viewers a centre of the stage perspective, thus shattering the classic theatrical form, where the view is directed only through the fourth wall. The direction of view without the safe shelter of the proscenium frame, screen or canvas becomes an individual’s choice in a 360° environment. In this way, we enable each spectator to direct their own view of the offered performance.

At the event, each visitor is equipped with their own set of VR goggles, headphones and a rotating seat.

As the number of seats for each repetition is very limited, we recommend you book a ticket as soon as possible by purchasing it online at this link or at the box office of the Španski borci (every working day between 17:00 and 19:00).

Tickets: 8 euros, 5 euros for high school students, students and senior citizens – unemployed and disabled will be allowed free entry.

You are invited to the opening event, which will take place on 16.10. at 3 p.m. at our showroom.

The presented products and services combine creativity with a business vision. We highlight the stories of small brands that express functionality, a passion for life and nature, innovative ways of using local materials, especially wood, and new production techniques based on regional craftsmanship and advanced sustainable production techniques.

The set of 90 products that received the “Made in Slovenia” badge of excellence was created in the last two years and in many ways represents the efforts of the Center for Creativity, which operates within the Museum of Architecture and Design – to connect, promote, support and develop the cultural and creative sector in Slovenia and more actively connect it with the economy, science, and education. The products predict the future of living, where raw materials are no longer in abundance, where it is necessary to rationalize the methods of production and use of human resources and bring the products closer to a new generation of users who want customized solutions. These are in technologically advanced and innovative manufacturing, which manufacturers and designers combine with a love of life and nature.

The Future of Living: Paris

8 Sep −15 Sep 2021

Paris Design Week

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

As part of Paris Design Week, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Paris set up an exhibition entitled The Future of Living at the famous Gallery Joseph Paris. Slovenian design garnered a lot of interest, from both the professional and general public.

Paris Design Week, which will take place at several locations in Paris, has been selected to present the new design. On this occasion, new trends are set and different generations of designers are connected, from young to internationally renowned. This year’s theme was “desirable development”, which is also linked to the way out of the difficult crisis period associated with the coronavirus. For Design Week, Paris is completely disguised in the yellow and black colors of the event, with 350 entities participating, from large museums and department stores to art schools, galleries and boutiques, which are visited by hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

In a special innovative set of Paris Design Week Factory, a smaller version of the exhibition of 35 innovative and sustainable Slovenian products from a total of 90 products that received the “Made in Slovenia” badge of excellence was on display. The Slovenian exhibition was well attended, and Slovenian innovative products received great attention, positive responses and excellent evaluations from both the professional and general public. At the same time, Spirit Slovenija organized a very resounding group presentation of six Slovenian companies at the world’s leading fair for interior design and design, Maison & Objet.

n this occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Paris also organized a reception, which was attended by over 300 people.

The field of design and interior design is undoubtedly an area where some designers and Slovenian companies have already established themselves well on the French market, but at the same time there is still a lot of open potential.

The Future of Living project was created in cooperation between the Center for Creativity / MAO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and the Embassies of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. The exhibition, which was on view in Paris between 8 and 15 September 2021, is part of a series of promotional events for the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Future of Living: Pristina

20 Jun −4 Jul 2021

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

On Monday, June 21, 2021, the opening of the exhibition The Future of Living took place in Pristina, which will be on view until July 4, 2021. The exhibition will be open until July 4 2021 in the Lapidary of the National Museum of Kosovo.

The exhibition, organized in cooperation between the Center for Creativity / MAO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Pristina, and the hosts, the National Museum of Kosovo, was opened by Tina Lampelj. The Opening ceremony was followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. The gathered guests were enthusiastic about the exhibition, as the creative and design sector in Kosovo is only in the initial stages of development, but it shows great potential. The state pays too little attention to the sector, and on the other hand, donor countries invest a lot in this area.

The Future of Living: Berlin

27 May −6 Jun 2021

Potsdamer Str. 81-83, Berlin

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

This year’s theme of Berlin Design Week / BNDNWK 2021 / is “New Traditions”. New crises call for new, fast strategies for their containment. Resolute, clear-cut sustainable design has the potential to start a new, better normal. The exhibition The Future of Living at BNDNWK 2021 demonstrates the innovative ways in which Slovenian design responds to future challenges with products that combine local materials with traditional craftsmanship. Companies, researchers, and decision-makers need the creative power of design, fresh ideas, new strategies, and concepts for social change and vice-versa.

The exhibition opens at Potsdamer Str. 81-83 in Berlin, in a standalone venue. The prime location and a 20m-long shop window open out onto one of the busiest streets in Berlin, ensuring good visibility for Slovenian design. The exhibition is a standalone venue and was developed in cooperation with the Centre for Creativity/MAO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Berlin and SKICA – Slovenian Cultural Centre in Berlin.

The exhibition in Berlin is the first exhibition as part of major promotional events organised in the framework of the Slovenian presidency to the Council of the European Union. The exhibition The Future of Living launched in Vienna, and after a stop in Berlin will continue its journey through Zagreb, Budapest, Paris, London, Denmark, Finland, Egypt, Israel, United States of America and other destinations. We will showcase our designs in 25 locations and events celebrating design and the creative economy, the central theme marking this year in Slovenia.

The products showcased by the exhibition forecast the future of living, in which raw materials are no longer available in abundance, production methods and human resources need to be rationalised, and products are adapted to a new generation of users who want customised solutions. These come with innovative, technologically advanced production processes that producers and designers combine with their love of life and nature. The products and services presented here combine creativity with a business vision. They spotlight the stories of fresh brands that express functionality, passion, innovative applications of materials (especially wood), and new production techniques that build on regional craftsmanship and advanced techniques of sustainable production.

The exhibition features 43 of the 90 selected products that have received the “Made in Slovenia” mark of design excellence in the last two years. In many respects, the collection represents the efforts of the Centre for Creativity – which operates under the wing of the Museum of Architecture and Design – to connect, promote, support, and develop the cultural and creative sector in Slovenia, to facilitate collaboration with the business, science and education sectors.

Many designers featured in the exhibition employ traditional crafts in innovative ways. Darja Malešič turned to traditional Slovenian wicker craft to protect the bottles in her wicker water bottle series with materials such as willow, corn husk, and rye straw. Vulgaris Woodcut wine studiolo combines excellence in furniture making with an original woodcut in an astounding object for wine lovers. Belabela’s home accessories engage users in the production cycle, inviting them to use their hands to complete the laser-cut coasters with their embroideries. The modular wine rack Helga was designed by Sadar+Vuga and made from a glazed ceramic block manufactured locally by a small pottery workshop using a technique employed in the manufacture of traditional ceramic stoves. Two young architects working under the name Studio Moste explore crafts and their interaction with design, so they hand make every piece they design. This time they bring their deconstructed drawer unit No. 2 and cutting boards made of scrap wood.

Another group of designers upcycled waste materials and transformed them into valuable, high-quality products. Cup by Aklih studio is a handy lamp, 3D-printed using a mixture of biodegradable plastic and wood. The jewellery cum decoration Gift of the Future is made of recycled silver obtained from electronic waste, which fits with the Floios studio philosophy that they are not designers, but “foragers and seekers.” On the other hand, the Donar company seeks to save the world from plastic waste with chairs like Nicoless and Collodi. All their chairs answer the human need to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet and use waste as an industrial material of the future. The redesign is part of the new philosophy of socially responsible and sustainable design.

The exhibition The Future of Living is a  promotional event organised in the framework of the Slovenian presidency to the Council of the European Union.

The Centre for Creativity is co-funded by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Slovenia.

This time on Skillshare, we will talk about connecting science, technology and art to achieve social change, and the role of the artist as an intermediary. What does “co-creating the future in a pragmatic way” mean? Our guest will be Miha Turšič, an artist, designer and researcher focused on the development of the arts and humanities in outer space.

At the beginning of his career, Miha Turšič co-founded the design studio Asobi, where he worked as a creative director. He continued his journey as a co-founder of the art group Postgravityart, where he is still involved in the development of art in outer space.

As a by-product of artistic practice, he also co-founded the Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies (KSEVT), through which he enables research of artistic, cultural and humanistic practices in cooperation with space institutions. In recent years, he has been working in Waag (NL), where he runs the Open Space Lab and develops new interdisciplinary research and development methods. He is also active in the European initiative S + T + ARTS, which enables the development of new forms of technological growth based on the integration of artistic practices in the manufacturing industry, robotics and new media.

The interdisciplinary integration in the fields of science, technology and the arts has immense potential for the innovations that will be necessary for the social, environmental and economic challenges that the near future brings.

Marko Peljhan is a conceptual artist, researcher and professor at UC Santa Barbara. He works at the intersection of art, technology and science, and his work of the last 27 years has been presented in museums and exhibitions around the world and awarded at numerous festivals and biennials. He is a recipient of the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica, presented at the 50th and 58th Venice Biennales and documenta in Kassel. Several projects have emerged out of his work, where art is intertwined with high-tech and industry. In 2007 he co-founded the C-Astral company, a frontrunner in the field of drone production and small unmanned aerial vehicles, and was one of the key initiators of the Center Odličnosti Vesolje (Slovenian Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies Space-SI), which produced and launched the first Slovenian NEMO-HD micro-satellite.

The event will focus on and assess the possible developmental and business opportunities of and through artistic pursuits and how artistic thinking can contribute to the growth of innovation and unexpected use of technologies.

Marko Peljhan’s projects, initiatives and collaborations extend to the fields of ecology, social reflection and aeronautical and space research. In his art practice, he often uses materials and methods that directly confront systems of social control and their strategies, the development of new communication technologies, transport and surveillance, and the question of how political, economic and military power systems accelerate technological development and how we direct this development with so-called “conversions”.

Individual counselling is intended primarily for artists who are interested in how to direct and convert their artistic pursuits into business ideas, and entrepreneurs who are interested in strategic cooperation between the art and research sectors.

Register for the workshop here.

Marko Peljhan has exhibited at Ars Electronics and in museums such as MoMA PS1, New Museum of Contemporary Art, NTT ICC in Tokyo, YCAM in Yamaguchi, Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, ACC in Gwangju, and Garage in Moscow, among others. In 2001, he received the Ars Electronica Golden Nica for the Polar project, which he co-created with German artist Carsten Nicolai. Together with the American-Canadian artist Matthew Biederman, he has been leading the Arctic Perspective Initiative since 2008, which reflects on the global significance of the Arctic’s geopolitical, natural and cultural dimensions and was exhibited in 2011 at the Coded Utopia exhibition at the Modern Gallery Ljubljana. In Slovenia, he was one of the initiators behind the establishment of the Center odličnosti Vesolje (The Slovenian Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies SPACE-SI), and in 1998 began working actively in space and aeronautical research and the culturalization of space. In 1998 in Piran, he organized for AV Studio the first live video connection between the Russian space station MIR and Slovenia while it was flying over Slovenia. On the radio waves he is known as S54MX.

The company C-Astral, co-founded with Sam Stopar and Nejc Trošt in Ajdovščina, is a frontrunner in the production of small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) with a fixed wing and a special emphasis on high productivity, durability, aerial surveying and other remote sensing methods. Commonly, their clients consist in commercial UAS operators, major institutional networks, scientific users, and government entities. Currently, C-Astral systems fly for more than a dozen governments on four continents and are used for research, missing persons, force protection, border protection, fire control, and remote sensing. They are also used by more than 100 commercial and scientific operators worldwide. C-Astral has a multidisciplinary laboratory for software and hardware for work in aerodynamics and for system integration, as well as a prototype CAD/CAM workshop for the production and modelling of composite materials. Today, C-Astral systems flies across all continents, even in extreme environments such as high-altitude open pits, deserts, mountains, Antarctica, Arctic, agricultural land, and forests around the world.

A fresh selection of contemporary Slovenian design production, local materials and sustainable principles!

The presented products and services combine creativity with a business vision. We’ve highlighted stories of small brands that express functionality, a passion for life and nature, innovative ways of using local materials (wood in particular), and new production methods based on regional craftsmanship and advanced sustainable production technologies.

Over the past two years, a set of 90 products that have received the “Made in Slovenia” mark of excellence was assembled, which in many ways well represents the efforts of the Centre for Creativity, which operates within the Museum for Architecture and Design – to connect, promote, support and develop the cultural and creative sector in Slovenia and more actively connect it with the economy, science and education. The selected products look to and forecast the future of living, where raw materials are no longer available in abundance, where it is necessary to rationalize the methods of production, use human resources, and bring the products closer to a new generation of users who want and need custom solutions. These are to be found in technologically advanced and innovative manufacturing, which manufacturers and designers combine with a love of life and nature.

At the November Skillshare event we are presenting the potentials of the computer game industry from the perspective of the high added value that this industry brings, and we determine the state of the game industry in Slovenia. Which is why we invited Marko Grgurovič (Triternion), Matjaž Požlep (Art Rebel 9), Boštjan Troho (Karo, ex Zootfly), Primož Strajnar (Tricky Tribe) and game designer Matej Jenko (Chess Universe, ex Outfit) to the Center for Creativity’s virtual studio.

The event is intended for all those toying with game production, either as users or as developers. You will have a unique opportunity to ask questions in person at the event, or to attend individual counselling with the biggest experts in the gaming industry.

and is expected to see an annual growth rate of almost 13%. The key factors driving this growth are technological expansion and innovation in hardware and software. Game developers are constantly pushing the technological limitations of displaying graphics in real time. Due to the pandemic, we spend a lot more time at home, which has stimulated the growth of the sector. Market analyst Newzoo predicts that the gaming industry’s revenue will exceed $200 billion in 2023 (in all gaming sectors combined, i.e. mobile phone games, console games and PC games).

The games and software sector has its place in Slovenia, as 5,249 employees generate as much as 21% of all revenues in the cultural and creative sector (KKS). The industry enjoys one of the highest gross domestic values in the country, amounting to as much as 51,047€ per employee.

The game industry combines segments of cultural and creative work, from screenwriting and dramaturgy to illustration and music, which makes it ever more important in the development of the CCS. With this event we will find out what’s happening in the Slovenian gaming industry, where its potentials lie, its global trends, how Slovenian entrepreneurs are following them and how successful they’ve been as a result. For that reason we’ve invited Slovenian companies and individuals to the event who can provide us with us some insight into the development of the gaming industry here at home.

Matjaž Požlep

founded Arxel Tribe, a video game and multimedia company in 1991 with Diego Zanc. The company has developed several adventure games based on original code (engine). The company initially worked doing special effects in advertising, and in doing so became the leading company in Italy. In 1996, they expanded into video games. After the first successful release of a game in France – Pilgrim (250,000 units – Infogrames 1997) – came their international breakthrough with the game Ring, created after Wagner's musical drama The Ring of Nibelung (700,000 units – Cryo 1998). By 1999, they had also become publishers, with games released in 35 countries. In 2001, Arxel Tribe was bought by the Italian game distributor CTO S.p.A. Immediately afterwards, Matjaž Požlep founded Art Rebel 9, a production company that combines interactive technologies with custom storytelling and focussed on advanced technological solutions like VR and AR experiences, digital applications and similar.

Boštjan Troha

is an entrepreneur who founded and ran two successful startups in the field of video games and simulators for the military industry. He started his career at Arxel Tribu in the 1990s; then in 2002 he founded Zootfly together with Denis Rožaj. He was involved in securing early-stage project funding (more than $5 million per project) and forming strategic alliances with key actors. The company’s best known games were mainly military strategies: Panzer Elite Action: Fields of Glory, First Battalion, Panzer Elite Action: Dunes of War, Prison Break: The Conspiracy, and Narco Terror. The company took over Interblock in 2013 and switched it to mobile games, gambling, multimedia products such as holographic games, and hybrid entertainment products. Today, Boštjan works as a consultant in the development of business strategies.

Matej Jenko

is an illustrator who began his career at Arxel Tribu in the late 1990s. As head of game design at Outfit7, he oversaw the design of their hits My Talking Tom, My Talking Angela, and Talking Tom Gold Run for almost seven years. He will lecture on the role of the game designer in the gaming industry. What really is a game designer, what no one says about them, and the pitfalls of the profession?

Marko Grgurovič

began development of the game Mordhau during his doctoral studies in computer science at the University of Primorska. Mordhau is a medieval multiplayer game that, after being released in April 2019 on the Steam platform, has long remained at the top of the best-selling games list. The game was partly funded through a Kickstarter campaign, which raised nearly $300,000 back in 2017.

Primož Strajnar

is an entrepreneur and a co-founder of Tricky Tribe (https://trickytribe.com/), a mobile studio with ten employees. Prior to that, he worked at Outfit7, in marketing, product and business development. Tricky Tribe’s first major game was Tinker Island in 2016, a mix of gaming genres featuring text adventures and resource management. After that they released the game Journey Jake and more than ten prototypes of simple games, among which the most successful is ASMR Slicing, which in May 2020 was the most loaded game in the world. They are currently pursuing a strategy of making simple (hypercasual) and slightly more time- and hardware-demanding (casual, mid-core) games. Primož is currently also the president of the Slovenian Game Developers Association.

The Centre for Creativity has joined in the organization of the 18th Innovation Day, which the GZS (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia) is organizing for the first time this year in cooperation with the Creative Forum (creativeforum.si). This year’s event focuses on the importance of creativity and the potential of the creative industry to create solutions for the current crisis brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic.

Innovation Day, the leading Slovenian conference on innovation in the economy, is enhancing its global character this year. This year’s conference “Symptoms of Creativity” will bring together representatives of the economy, the creative sector and the political sphere from Slovenia and beyond in a new way. Innovation Day will take place on 30 November 2020 online, and will wrap up with the awarding of the 18th national awards of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for innovation.

This year’s Innovation Day marks the 18th year in a row the event is being held, and is one of the central initiatives in Slovenia aimed at raising awareness of the importance of innovation in the economy and promoting and recognizing exceptional efforts and examples in the field of innovation. This year’s event is held in cooperation with creativeforum.si, the only creative forum on foreign policy in the region, which addresses the creative sector as a driver of social and economic progress, international development, stability and security. The Creative Forum was established in 2018 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with a number of national and international partners. It is primarily focused on the Western Balkans and surrounding countries, but this year, given the global scope of the crisis, it will bring together creatives, entrepreneurs and policy makers from around the world.

Central theme: Accelerate growth of your business through service innovation, Kristi Hodak (UK), Assistant Director of Design at McKinsey & Company

We live in a paradoxical time. We have the tools to connect with people around the world in an instant, and the technology to share our knowledge in an instant, yet we still spend hours and hours filling out forms on paper for simple, everyday services and pointless tasks. Kristi Hodak, a service design specialist and expert in the sustainable implementation of transformation services, will talk about rethinking these time-consuming, bureaucratic and complex systems and how to replace them with simple, useful services that improve our daily lives.

11:00-12:15

Leaders’ Panel: From Unplanned Spill-overs to Deliberate Cross-overs moderated by Ragnar Siil (EST), Cultural Policy and Creative Industries Expert

Governments around the world are starting to understand the spill-over effects of the creative industries – the unplanned impact on other sectors, e.g. tourism or social well-being. However, what is still mostly absent is deliberate and planned coordination between the creative industries and other policy areas to foster positive results and fully take advantage of the transformative impact.

Ministers and high-level representatives of the European Commission and the OECD will discuss practical ways  to advance impacting crossovers between culture, the economy, and other areas, and to bring culture from the wings to centre stage. Together, we are seeking an answer to the question: what is the role of creativity in the building of more cohesive, more innovative and happier societies?

11:00-12:15

Service Design in Slovenia – Why, When, Where and Who? moderated by Aleš Ugovšek (SI), PhD, Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Services are booming and taking on an increasingly important role in our daily lives. As consumers become more critical and demanding, it is becoming even more important to design these services more effectively. Over the past 30 years, many service design methods have been developed in order to better understand the customer’s perspective. How have these methods reshaped the Slovenian service sector? In which industries has design thinking taken root? Join us and meet some of the companies that have stepped up their game with service design!

13:00-14:30

Preparing Fertile Grounds: Policies to Connect Business and Creativity moderated by Bernd Fesel (DE), Chair of the European Creative Business Network

The value of cultural and creative industries extends far beyond the immediate beneficial effects of culture on an individual’s well-being and community cohesion. Establishing links to industry and commerce has beneficial spillover effects, not only for businesses but also for the economy in general. This is why governments actively support further integration of the CCI into other economic sectors. Which policy instruments have proved effective when trying to bring companies and creatives closer? We will take a closer look at selected policies that have made the biggest bang!

13:00-14:30

Creating Value: Companies and Creatives Hand in Hand moderated by Matej Golob (SI), Innovation Management Consultant

Innovative practices in culture and creativity not only reinforce the innovative capacities of the CCI sector, but spill over into new approaches, practices, services, and products in the economy at large. Companies that understand such potential include creatives in their production processes. What do the cultural and creative sectors bring to the table? Which approaches of CCI inclusion have proved to be the most successful? Join the panel to see first-hand how companies benefit from collaboration with the cultural and creative sectors.

14:45-15:30

Art&Science: What Artistic Innovation can Give to Science&Business? moderated by Peter Purg (SI), PhD, Researcher of Interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship

Artists are increasingly joining scientists in their research facilities; the tools and methodologies used by artists and designers radically shift the way research questions are conceived and the way problems are discussed and articulated. These unorthodox methodologies often lead to unorthodox solutions, providing inspiration not only to the teams they are part of but also to society at large. Can artists engage meaningfully in all phases of scientific research? Where could the outsiders’ artistic approach contribute the most? Can these participatory methodologies also provide inspiration for addressing the burning issues of the present? Join leading entrepreneurs and researchers to find out how artists add value to their work.

14:45-15:30

Creative Hubs Session: Hacking New Realities, moderated by Luka Piškorič & Eva Matjaž (SI), Poligon Creative Centre
(on invitation only)

Recognised for their important role in fostering communities of creative professionals and businesses, creative hubs are on the frontline of the challenges facing the creative sector. While the coronavirus crisis has forced many of the hubs to drastically limit their activities, this session will invite creative hub managers to co-create survival strategies for their hubs and communities.

Culture for the Economy

23 Oct 2020

Za prijavo na dogodek se morate naprej registrirat na naši spletni strani.

Asocijacija group with CzK (Centre for Creativity) under MAO (Museum for Architecture and Design) is inviting visitors to take part in the Culture for the Economy workshop.

Linking the economy with culture, traditional sponsorship models and marketing can have many positive effects on a company. Urška Jež, an expert in the field, will present current trends in cross-field integration and the multiplier effects of successful cooperation with the cultural and creative sector to various interested entrepreneurs.

Connecting companies directly with culture can have a wide range of effects, some of which are distinct and often better than other sponsorship and marketing communication arrangements.

The workshop will teach companies about the effects they can achieve if they direct sponsorship funds to cultural events and organizations; what challenges both in the environment and within the company can be addressed by including cultural sponsorships in their programs; and what additional results can be achieved by incorporating culture into the day-to-day life of the company.

The workshop is an opportunity to become better familiar with the specifics of non-governmental (NGO) cultural organizations, with a particular focus on managing a diverse portfolio of target groups with which NGO cultural organizations interact in their work. We will also discuss the specifics of the NGO cultural organization operations and how they affect the development of models and competencies that can help grow organizational culture at companies, help gain competitive advantages in the market, or new perspectives on environmental challenges.

The workshop will be held in three locations in Slovenia – in Koper, Ljubljana and Maribor. The number of participants is limited. You can register for the workshop by sending an e-mail to marusa.golob@asociacija.si, no later than September 6th.

NORA NORMALNOST, or how to survive Corona?

The Poligon Creative Centre and the Centre for Creativity are invite you to a workshop on tips and tricks for self-employed during pandemic of COVID-19.

There are many services in Slovenia that offer quality support to the self-employed in overcoming administrative and bureaucratic obstacles. Also, the self-employed often get involved in various incubator programs designed to upgrade business concepts. The workshops that Poligonovci have been designing and conducting since 2016 under the common title “Self-employed, but not alone” are slightly different.

Our workshops include exercises and strategies to strengthen soft work skills, which we have been developing at the Poligon for several years with the involvement of over 3,000 self-employed people. Workshops put you – the worker – at the centre instead of your project. We believe that by focusing on sharpening your work skills, we can help you work more successfully, not only on the next project, but in the long run:

→ to organize your work in a more sensible way,

→ to navigate between all the different tasks with less effort,

→ so you don’t sell your services below cost,

→ and not just to live for work, but to work to live better.

The workshop topics vary: from reflecting on your professional path, setting the value of your work and the organization of work practice, to working with colleagues and clients, and navigating between a variety of work roles and tasks. This time, for the first time, we will also conduct a workshop focused on dealing with the new working reality during COVID-19.

Purpose of the workshop Nora Normalnost (CRAZY NORMALITY)

For many, the COVID-19 pandemic is becoming the most stressful period in their entire career. Walking around with masks and measuring our temperature, while the media constantly report on the daily number of infected and dead and present the blackest economic forecasts of the expected crisis, it is no wonder that we feel stress, anxiety, fear, sadness, restlessness, helplessness, irritability, difficulties sleeping and concentrating, and experiencing various physical symptoms and other unpleasant sensations. At the same time, we still need to keep a sober head, pay the bills and acquire, and carry out various projects in much more uncertain conditions than before.

Above all, workshop wants to open a space for safe discussion and finding solutions on how to survive the Corona as a worker in the cultural and creative sector. In the workshop, we will try to:

  1. Make an analysis and reflection of the situation: the challenges of the work and life of creators in the uncertain year 2020.
  2. Design and share different solid approaches and strategies to deal with this “crazy” work normality.
  3. Explore opportunities for mutual support and assistance.

The workshop will be led by Mag. Eva Matjaž, psychologist and program manager of Poligon and Luka Piškorič, economist and director of the Poligon.

PRIOR REGISTRATION FOR THE WORKSHOP IS MANDATORY. SIGN UP HERE: https://tinyurl.com/y5ypbvbs
